JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for an experienced Automotive Door Systems Design Engineer to support the design, development, and integration of automotive door components and closure systems.

The ideal candidate will have a background in mechanical or product design engineering, preferably within the automotive industry, with exposure to door latches, locking mechanisms, exterior/interior handles, cinch systems, or other vehicle closure components.

This role offers the opportunity to work closely with OEM engineering teams, suppliers, manufacturing, and quality teams to develop and deliver reliable automotive components from initial design through production launch.

Candidates with experience in mechanical design, automotive components, injection-molded parts, and mechanism development are encouraged to apply.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Product Design & Development: Lead the design, development, and integration of automotive door components, including door latches, locking mechanisms, cinch systems, exterior/interior handles, and related assemblies.
  • Component Engineering: Manage component design requirements, packaging, functionality, and integration within the overall vehicle architecture.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with OEM engineering, manufacturing, procurement, quality teams, and Tier 1 suppliers to support product development and engineering deliverables.
  • Design & CAD Development: Create, review, and modify 3D models, engineering drawings, and component designs using CAD tools such as CATIA V5 or Siemens NX.
  • Design Validation: Support design reviews, DFMEA development, DVP&R activities, and component testing to ensure product functionality, durability, and reliability.
  • Problem Solving: Investigate and resolve engineering issues related to component functionality, noise, vibration, water sealing, fit and finish, and mechanical performance.
  • Manufacturing Support: Coordinate with suppliers and manufacturing teams to address design, tooling, and production-related challenges.
  • Production Launch: Support prototype builds, validation activities, production launches, and engineering changes to ensure successful implementation.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for design optimization, cost reduction, weight reduction, and improved component performance.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Typically 3–5+ years of experience in automotive product design, mechanical engineering, or component development.
  • Experience with automotive door systems, closures, latches, locking mechanisms, handles, cinch systems, or related mechanical components is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design, component packaging, mechanism functionality, and product integration.
  • Working knowledge of CATIA V5, Siemens NX, or other 3D CAD design tools.
  • Understanding of GD&T, tolerance stack-up, engineering drawings, and design validation processes.
  • Familiarity with DFMEA, DVP&R, APQP, PPAP, and automotive product development processes.
  • Exposure to injection-molded plastic components, tooling, and manufacturing processes is an advantage.
  • Ability to troubleshoot engineering issues and work effectively with cross-functional engineering and supplier teams.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
